OUR PURPOSE

Film powerfully shapes perceptions of faith because stories immerse viewers, lower counter-arguing, and shift beliefs through narrative transportation—the feeling of being “lost” in a story (a well-documented route to attitude change).

Beyond immersion, audiences learn by observing characters: social-cognitive research shows that modeled behavior and values on screen can be internalized, influencing attitudes toward religious people and practices.

Scholars of religion and media argue that film often functions like a “public theology,” offering myths, morals, and rituals that frame how viewers imagine the sacred—even when religion is implicit rather than overt. This matters at scale: Americans routinely engage faith via electronic media, situating cinema within everyday religious experience and meaning-making.

Bottom line: when films portray faith with artistic excellence and authenticity, they don’t just reflect belief—they help (re)construct it, shaping audience understanding of God, community, and moral life.

PRESS RELEASE

“Help Them See Foundation” Launches to Support Faith-Based Films That Inspire and Uplift

Nonprofit aims to back development, production, and distribution; plans to fund 2–3 films a year

AMERICAN FORK, Utah — August 15, 2025 — The Help Them See Foundation today announced its official launch, establishing a mission-driven nonprofit dedicated to funding the creation and distribution of faith-based films that uplift, inspire, and illuminate truth. By partnering with filmmakers and mobilizing donors, the foundation will champion stories that strengthen belief, promote healing, and reach audiences worldwide.

“Cinema is one of the most powerful tools for increasing faith and driving personal and cultural transformation,” said Garrett Batty, founder and executive director of the Help Them See Foundation. “We’re building a donor-powered engine that prioritizes spiritual impact over profit, helping light-filled stories reach the people who need them most.”

In its first year, Help Them See plans to fund two to three high-quality films and support their theatrical and digital outreach. The foundation will direct the vast majority of donations—targeting 85%+—to projects and audience engagement, including production grants, distribution support, community screenings, and ministry partnerships. Donors may contribute to the general fund or designate gifts for specific approved projects and will receive regular progress updates and an annual impact report.

“As a filmmaker, I’ve seen how a well-told story can open hearts in ways little else can,” said Kirby Heyborne, actor and filmmaker. “Help Them See creates a direct bridge between faithful donors and storytellers, ensuring films with eternal resonance actually get made—and get seen.”

Help Them See evaluates projects based on mission alignment, artistic excellence, audience potential, and spiritual impact. All proposals undergo board review prior to funding.
