Saints and Outlaws

Episode One: “The Hand of God”

Set in the turbulent aftermath of Joseph Smith’s martyrdom, Saints and Outlaws brings to life the true events that tested the faith and courage of early Latter-day Saints. The pilot episode, The Hand of God, follows three men whose fates collide on the Illinois frontier—each wrestling with guilt, justice, and the unseen hand of Providence.

Captain Frank Worrell, once charged with protecting Joseph Smith, cannot escape the whispers that he allowed the Prophet’s death. His brother-in-law, Thomas Sharp, fans the flames of hatred from his printing press, while a band of outlaws led by Benjamin Tate readies for war against the Saints.

Across the river in Nauvoo, Orrin Porter Rockwell—the loyal bodyguard of the Prophet—grieves the loss of his friend and questions his own faith. When Brigham Young calls for restraint and sends Rockwell on a mission of peace, Porter must choose between obedience and vengeance.

That choice comes to a head on a dusty Illinois road, where Rockwell’s rifle and conscience meet divine intervention. The shot that fells Worrell echoes through history as both judgment and mercy—marking the beginning of Rockwell’s legend, and the dawn of a people’s westward journey toward faith and freedom.
